The GNSS Module supports two dynamic modes: standard (default) with acceleration up to 4 g and high dynamic (optional) with acceleration up to 25 g.Ĭommunication with the module is accomplished through a dual serial interface (DUART) that supports NMEA 0183 v4.10 and GSN binary data protocol. The GNSS Module features auxiliary functionality such as Data logger, Odometer and Geofencing for easy integration to customer applications. Extended ephemeris technology allows the user to get position fix quickly after power-up (within 10 s) with acceptable accuracy. Morning start ups are a few seconds, every morning, vs. The MS Streets and Trips has never before tracked as close as it does now. It is now a couple of weeks and 4000 miles later. The following picture is the signal strength from in my basement. I have not taken this unit on a trip yet, but, if it works half as good out in the real world as it do es in my home, IT'S A WINNER. The most impressive part so far is that I can hook up to satellite tracking "in my basement". In the blink of an eye your hooked up with the BU-353S4. Very annoying when you get close to the customer and don't have tracking. Then it would drop the signal at random times through out the day, AND, take up to a half hour to come back. I run MS Streets and Trips, the old receiver would take up to 3 hours to hook up the first time in the day. Once I followed the instructions and got it to work I was and am totally amazed at how quickly it hooks up and how many satellites are available to this unit.

It took a little while to set-up on my Windows 7 laptop.
On the three questions above I had to choose between yes or no when I would have said maybe or not sure. But next week we'll be leaving on a 2000 mile RV trip thru lots of back roads. Then I had to plot a map route around our neighborhood, get my wife to drive it while I confirmed that it was receiving sattelite signals and informing us of upcoming turns. Finally I printed out 15 pages of instructions from the mfgr, followed them very closely, and then got the receiver to appear operational. So I ordered the new BU-353S4.Ĭonnecting it was a very time consuming problem since I kept getting the message "can't open the specified port".
After our spring RV trip where it was useless, I contacted DeLorme and was informed that the problem may have been the old receiver (BU-353).

Yes I like the USB GPS and I would purchase it again but I am really happy that the software somehow connected with my Rugged Extreme Laptop built in GPS.

Dell was telling me I needed to purchase and install a Broadband card and have it installed in my Laptop to get my GPS working. I wish I would have just purchased this GPS from the start instead of wasting a few hours talking with Del Help. The GPS in my laptop installed within my laptop is the same manufacturer of the USB UPS I purchased. When I het 35,400 the thing came alive with the G PS in my Laptop which is what I wanted all along, but Now I have the option of an external GPS should I need a remote receiver. I once again went to my mapping software and set the GPS to COM 4 and started selecting BAUD Rates one at a time and testing the GPS at each different setting. I was able to use the GPS even in my living room, worked perfect.Ī couple of days later I was playing around with the device configuration setup on my laptop and I noticed that COM 4 said GPS and my USB GPS was not plugged in. I installed the software and plugged in the USB GPS and went to y program that uses GPS "National Geographic TOPO!" and began playing with the com ports and baud rates as recommended in the instructions. I really purchased this USB GPS receiver as a last resort due to Dell being no help in getting my built in GPS unit working on my Rugged Extreme Laptop.
